3.5 = Very Good Condition
3.0 = Good Condition
2.0 = Fair ConditionThe Cob William is one of our own Saddles Direct show saddles, built on the Ideal Highland & Cob (H&C) tree. It has a wide, open head and flat panels, designed for broad cob and native types with flat backs and big shoulders. It's a straight-cut show saddle with a neat outline, but it also has Velcro knee and calf blocks, which you don't often find on a show saddle. That makes it a nice option if you want a bit more leg support in the ring or at home.
Fit & feel
- 17" seat with a wider twist and a square cantle. It isn't a low-profile or flat seat, so you still get some depth
- Straight-cut show flap
- Velcro knee and calf blocks, which can be repositioned to suit your leg
- Wide, open head and flat panels to suit a broad, flat back
- Very slim front gussets, giving room for big shoulders
- Wool-flocked panels, which a fitter can adjust to fine-tune the fit as your horse changes shape
- Ideal H&C tree, currently a W fitting, which a qualified fitter can adjust on a pressure bench
- Point, middle and balance girthing options
- Brown leather, in excellent used condition
This one suits a broad, flat-backed cob or native type with big shoulders, going in working hunter or show classes. It's worth trialling alongside a Pony, Cob & Horse Bowland or a Black Country show saddle on the Freedom tree. Both are built for similar broad types, so you can compare how each tree sits through your horse's back and whether you'd miss the extra support of the Velcro blocks. As ever, that's a starting point for narrowing things down rather than a fit guarantee, so we'd recommend trialling it alongside an appointment with a fitter to see how it sits on your horse.
